Dental emergencies during the coronavirus pandemic
I’ve already been seen by the Barts Health dental team
If you are a patient referred to us, have already been seen (either in person or via remote consultation), and are looking for an update on your care, then please contact the Appointments Centre on 020 7767 3200 or the Patient Advice and Liaison service on 0203 594 2040.
We are working through patients already part way through their care in clinical priority order and we may not be ready to see you yet. We are working as hard as we can to progress everyone's care and will be in contact with you soon.
I was referred after March 2020 but have not yet been seen
If you have been newly referred to us, we are sorry to inform you there will still be a substantial wait. We cannot currently tell people exactly how long this will be, but are doing all we can to make this as short as possible.
Please keep in contact with your own dentist who will be updated on the status of your referral. Your dentist can support you with symptom management until we can invite you in for an assessment.
Once we are able to start inviting new patients we will invite those in order of clinical urgency, followed by patients who have been waiting the longest. Some specialties are soon ready to start with new patient appointments. If you are ready to undertake an assessment and discuss a treatment plan we look forward to seeing you shortly.
Patient referred on a suspicious symptoms pathway are already being cared for and will be assessed as our top priority.
I’ve not been referred but I have an urgent problem
We cannot currently accept walk-in arrivals. For urgent dental needs, please see below.
If you are registered with a dentist, please call them. They will undertake an assessment of your needs over the phone, manage your problem remotely or identify a time and location in which you can receive a face to face assessment and treat your urgent problems. If your dentist cannot help you right now, they will find a suitable hub practice and handover your care to the Urgent Dental Care Hub practice who is equipped to manage your needs right now.
Information for children's dental emergencies please see Paediatric Dentistry
What if I don’t have a dentist?
If you don’t have a dentist you can still gain access to help. Across London there are Urgent Dental Care Hubs open that can help you with urgent needs. You can access help by calling 111 and asking to be transferred to London Dental Triage. You must be located within the London area when making the telephone call. London Dental Triage will assess your level of need and refer you on to an urgent dental care hub that is equipped to complete urgent dental care.
